Video with Chris Brogan
Chris was kind enough to sit still (in an airport, ironically) for a short video that will resonate with potential clients for Tourism Currents. Feel free to repost it on your own blog. Here is the direct link to the video on our YouTube channel.
Audio with Des Walsh
Well-known for his grasp of new marketing, the Baby Boomer generation and Government 2.0, Australia-based Des Walsh brings a wealth of knowledge to tourism. In this 30 minute audio interview, Des talks about what worked with the Tourism Queensland “Best Job in the World” promotion, his own travel experiences and some magic phrases tourism boards and organizations can use to gain the participation of local businesses.
Text for emails, blog posts and tweets
To help get your creative side going, here are some bits of text you can use in your own emails, posts and newsletters to share Tourism Currents with your readers.
There are usually three problems with most social media training: it is too basic and generic, it is too advanced and nerdy, or it is well-balanced but not tailored to a specific industry.
Tourism Currents is different.
This learning community is as unique and high-energy as its co-founders Becky McCray and Sheila Scarborough. It is organized to provide basic social media overview information to those who need it (through a quick Intro Workshop or a three-part All the Basics course) or more advanced how-to specifics to those who are ready for it through the three-part Results Multipliers class (which dives deep into unique destination marketing topics like how to use social media for festivals and special events.)
If you are geared up to really make things happen for the long haul, the Tourism Currents six month Full Course combines the Basic and Multipliers, then throws in the Intro Workshop as a bonus.
Every course is a combination of multi-part lessons, exclusive videos with experts and a wrap-up printable checklist, plus there’s a member forum for detailed discussions.
Both Becky and Sheila have years of tech and social media experience combined with plain talk, wry humor and incredible smarts. Both have taught many social media workshops to business audiences but felt that they could really provide particular value to tourism professionals.
For example, instead of yet another “this is Twitter” seminar, they explain how Twitter can specifically help with fall foliage updates or ski/surf conditions. Instead of “this is video,” they explain how video can help your downtown walking tour reach a wider audience.
If you want a sense of how Becky and Sheila craft their materials, take a look at their jam-packed free monthly newsletter and you’ll be amazed at the depth and breadth of helpful guidance. Then, imagine that expanded into multiple lessons.
You won’t find such detailed, handcrafted, super-focused social media training materials anywhere else on the Web.
About Becky and Sheila
Sheila Scarborough is a travel writer, certified Navy Master Training Specialist and drag racing fan who is known for turbo-charged enthusiasm, a wicked sense of fun and a love of telling stories on the Web about destinations around the world.
Becky McCray is a small town business owner, with a liquor store and a cattle ranch. She works with tourism clients, small town governments and small businesses on projects and marketing. Her passion is helping small towns reach the world through these tools.
They’re not some marketing or PR agency cranking out products for a bunch of different businesses; they are two smart women who are hyper-focused on their members and how they can use tech to tell stories.
